International Day of Older Person

1st October is being celebrated as “International Day OF Elderly”. The International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society and raise awareness of the issues and challenges of ageing in today’s world. This year the theme was “Take a stand against Ageism”.

Older people who feel they are a burden may also perceive their lives to be less valuable, putting them at risk of depression and social isolation. Research shows that older adults with negative attitudes about ageing may live 7.5 years less than those with positive attitudes.

School Of Physiotherapy, RKU celebrated this day by organizing camps at different old age homes Ramnik kuverba Asharm, Maheshawari maa nu Asharam and Potanu Ghar Vridhhasharam. In the camp, faculties and 5th sem BPT students of School of Physiotherapy, RK University had evaluated the geriatric persons by specially designed geriatric assessment form including their cognitive, emotional, behavioral, mobility and balance issues and discussed about their everyday challenges with appropriate advices about diet and exercises. More than 100 elderly people had participated in the camp. Mr. Khodidasbhai Patel, Chairman, Prof. Ranjit Goswami, Vice Chancellor, RK University appreciated the effort of faculties and students of School of Physiotherapy for their contribution to the society.
